April 03 2017,
When looking for a compact, versatility, and fuel-efficient hatchback model, there are a lot of options available on the market for consumers. That said, buyers that want a bit more refinement along with an agile and dynamic drive will want to turn to the 2017 Volkswagen Golf, a compact hatch that stands out from its competition with its European design and driving characteristics.
There is a 2017 Volkswagen Golf for every need
The Volkswagen Golf lineup is one of the most complete in the compact vehicle segment. Offered in three 5-door variants, the 2017 Golf is also available as a 3-door model as well starting at $19,195. The 2017 Golf 5-Door starts at $21,245. Both come standard with alloy wheels, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and a rearview camera. The 5-Door model adds heated front seats and washer nozzles, 8-way adjustable front seats with power recline and cruise control.
Starting at $23,945, the 5-Door Comfortline model adds 16-inch wheels, App-Connect smartphone integration that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, dual-zone climate controls that allow passengers in the front to each have their own temperature setting, a 6.5-inch touchscreen for the audio system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The top-of-the-line 5-Door Highline offers all of that plus a 12-way power driver seat, a more advanced Discover Media Infotainment System with navigation, 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, leather seats and a panoramic power sunroof, all for $28,995.
A fuel-efficient and powerful engine in the 2017 Volkswagen Golf
The 2017 Volkswagen Golf is powered by four-cylinder turbocharged 1.8-liter engine that delivers 170 horsepower and more low-end torque (185 lb.-ft.) than most compact hatchbacks in its segment. Buyers can opt between a manual transmission or a six-speed automatic gearbox to send power to the front wheels. If you want more power, the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the all-wheel drive Volkswagen Golf R are also available, but we will save those models for a separate review.
Along with all the power offered by the 2017 Golf’s turbocharged four-cylinder, buyers also get a very fuel-efficient engine that features an average fuel economy rating of 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 6.6 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.
