All-New 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Adds More Interior Space and Versatility
April 04 2017,
The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan was unveiled in Europe last year, and has since been making the rounds of the international auto show circuit. It was most recently unveiled in Canada at the Toronto International Auto Show last month. Among the most significant additions to the new 2018 Tiguan is the introduction of a new long-wheelbase variant. That’s the model we will be getting in Canada.
2018 Volkswagen Tiguan extended-wheelbase set for Canada
By offering the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan extended-wheelbase in Canada, the German automaker is showing that it understands the needs of Canadian sport utility vehicle buyers. They want interior space, and they want a lot of it. That’s exactly what the 2018 Tiguan will offer.
Compared to the outgoing Tiguan, the new generation’s length increases by 272 mm. That means more cargo space, and more importantly that means that your rear passengers will have a lot more legroom. There is even enough room now to offer optional third-row seating so that you can accommodate 7 passengers in your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan.
Power will be supplied by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower and 221 lb.-ft. of torque. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but buyers can opt for Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. An 8-speed automatic gearbox will transfer power from the engine to the wheels and will be standard.
The new 2018 Tiguan will offer more power than most other compact SUVs in its segment, and as was the case with the previous model its handling and overall driving dynamics will likely be on the sporty side, while its refined interior and overall comfort will make it one of the most balanced compact sport utility vehicles on the market.
In terms of features, the new Tiguan will have plenty to offer including a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity functions, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert and emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning and prevention.
