2024 Volkswagen Taos vs. 2024 Kia Seltos

If you’re looking for a new compact SUV, the 2024 Volkswagen Taos is an excellent choice. With top-tier German engineering, and a whole suite of amenities and features to make driving a pleasure, it’s the ideal vehicle for an active lifestyle. It’s fair to wonder, though, how it compares to some of the other compact SUVs currently available on the market. So, how does it fare when we put it next to the Kia Seltos? Does the Seltos offer as much as the Taos does in such a small space? Join the team here at Fifth Avenue Volkswagen as we run down some of the differences between these two comparable compact SUVs.

Comfort

Driving should be comfortable and enjoyable, and the 2024 Volkswagen Taos certainly offers that. First off, it has more seat head and legroom than the cramped Kia Seltos does. It also offers a comparatively huge 1,866 L of maximum cargo volume behind the front seats, which is a full 100 L more than the Seltos. Plus, the Taos provides you with more standard features than the Seltos, including things like a heated steering wheel, or adaptive cruise control. The fact is, the Taos packs more into its space than the Kia Seltos does, and it definitely has the edge.

Performance

The 2024 Volkswagen Taos offers a better engine than the Kia Seltos in its impressive 158 horsepower, 1.5L 4-cylinder engine available across all trim levels. This in comparison to the Kia Seltos’ base 146 horsepower engine. While the Seltos does have an available 196 horsepower engine, you have to pay for a higher trim level to access it. Not only does the Taos excel compared to the Seltos in horsepower, it also provides more torque, making it feel more lively and quick on the road. Once again, the Volkswagen Taos has the edge.

Fuel Economy

Not only is the Volkswagen Taos a great driving experience, it’s a fuel efficient one. The Taos offers 9.8L/100km in the city and an impressive 7.3L/100km on the highway, allowing it to drive further without needing to stop as often for a top-off. The Kia Seltos just doesn’t compare – it offers a slightly better 9.4L/100km in the city, but only 8.7L/100km on the highway. Once again, we give the win to the Taos.
