2020 Volkswagen Jetta: Volkswagen’s premium compact sedan is fun and frugal

Have you noticed how many new Volkswagen Jettas there are on the road? Since the all-new 7th generation Jetta arrived for the 2019 model year, Canadian compact car buyers have become distracted by a car they once would not have considered for a number of reasons. With countless positive reviews from various Canadian automotive journalists, the new Jetta is rising to the top of its segment.

The Volkswagen Jetta is actually one of the best-selling compact cars in the world with well over 17.5 million units sold since the car was introduced 40 years ago. The latest generation of the Jetta is our most comfortable, efficient and technology-packed ever. Perhaps most crucial to the Jetta is that, at its core, it remains a Volkswagen meaning that it is one of the most entertaining cars to drive in its segment.

The new Volkswagen Jetta is based upon VW’s award-winning MQB platform. The car gains newfound levels of unmatched refinement, more interior space and safety features akin to those offered in more expensive vehicles.

Powering the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine which produces 147-horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Don’t be fooled by the engine’s diminutive displacement as all the torque is available as of 1,400 rpm. The front wheels are driven by either a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 8-speed automatic transmission. What’s most impressive about the powertrain is that, with the automatic transmission, the Jetta will consume as little as 5.9L/100km.

While on the road, the Volkswagen Jetta will keep you fully connected with the outside world thanks to its standard 6.5-inch screen with App-Connect which includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, and more. There’s plenty of room for five occupants and the trunks provides 399 liters of generous and usable volume.

Upper trims push the convincingly affordable Volkswagen Jetta to near luxury levels of kit. Look for an 8-inch screen, Climatronic dual-zone electronic climate control, navigation Beats Premium audio, wireless charging, customizable 12.3-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and leather-covered cooled front seats.

Physically, the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is big on personality with its standard 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and although the car looks premium, it is incredibly affordable. The available and optional R-Line package, with its 17-inch Viper alloy wheels, cross differential system, sport suspension and drive modes, elevates the Jetta’s standing and performance levels.

With styling, handling and content, the new 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a unique premium compact sedan for all.
