2020 Volkswagen Jetta vs 2020 Kia Forte

The Jetta reflects Volkswagen’s long heritage of quality vehicles that are fun to drive. From the recognizable design to performance that many competitors cannot match, the Jetta offers a well-equipped line of sedans with much appeal. It’s also important to measure up the Jetta against the competition to illustrate its quality. Here, we compare it to the Kia Forte.

The Jetta and Forte have similar exterior dimensions, but they also have some key differences. The Jetta is longer by 61 mm and 23 mm higher, which offers more room for a better engine, spacious cabin and a symmetrical design that optimizes handling.

The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a power and torque winner

The Jetta features two engines. The model line’s primary engine is a 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 147 horsepower and an impressive 184 lb-ft of torque that peaks at a low 1,500 rpm. The Kia Forte’s 2.0L four-cylinder outputs equivalent horsepower, but torque falls short to the Jetta by over 50 lb-ft, and it doesn’t peak until 4,500 rpm. This means you won’t experience full torque until the vehicle reaches much higher speeds, and this reduces performance in city driving.

Both vehicles offer more powerful engines for their higher level trims. The Jetta GLI features a 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This shadows the Forte’s best engine with nearly 20 more horsepower and a 63 lb-ft of torque. The Jetta’s available start/stop system with regenerative braking add a special feature not found on the Forte.

The Volkswagen Jetta is more efficient than the Forte at the pump with the 1.4L combined with the six-speed manual transmission, achieving a rating of 7.9/5.9 L/100 km (city/highway).

The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta features amenities you won’t find in the Forte

The Jetta also includes several interior features not available on the Forte. These include an auto dimming rearview mirror, seat memory, wireless charging, and a CD player that complements the advanced entertainment system.

Each Jetta features 510 litres of cargo capacity. That’s more than other compact sedans, and the 60/40 split folding rear seats offer different configurations for your needs. Rear passengers have more comfortable legroom than in the Forte.
