A look at Volkswagen active safety technologies

Safety is an integral part of every new Volkswagen product.

Volkswagen is the world’s largest automaker. This is the result of pioneering numerous segments, designing unique and innovative cars and SUVs and being at the forefront of countless new technologies. Once such field is safety.

Every new Volkswagen vehicle is assembled on the most rigid and crash-worthy platforms imaginable but experiencing how capable our body engineers are is something we prefer to circumvent. This is we equip our vehicles with the latest in active safety features. Here are a few of them listed in alphabetical order:

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

This technology could also be called “convenient cruise control.” Through a series of sensors, ACC maintains a set distance and speed between you and the car ahead. Should the vehicle ahead slow down, your Volkswagen will do the same. If it speeds up, it will match the acceleration until it reaches the set speed.

Area View

This is like having eyes all around your head. The “overhead view camera” collates images from various cameras on the car to help you navigate, for example, a tight shopping mall parking lot.

Blind Spot Monitor and Active Blind Spot Monitor

This system monitors what goes on in the driver’s blind spots and indicates to him or her the presence of a vehicle. The Active variation can counter-steer the car should the driver not take heed of the audible and visible warnings.

Front Assist

In the event that the car ahead suddenly decides to come to halt, your Volkswagen will alert you acoustically and visually to a potential front-end collision. If the driver does not respond in a way the car deems adequate, it will apply the brakes automatically. Also included with Front Assist is Pedestrian Monitoring. Depending on a certain set of conditions, your Volkswagen can brake automatically in order to avoid an impact with a pedestrian.

Lane Keeping Assist

This technology can keep you on the straight and narrow. If you begin to drift out of your lane, the system can help you steer back into the current lane.

Park Assist

Along with Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking and Rear Traffic Alert, when equipped, your Volkswagen will help you get in and out of any parking situation no matter how tight or crowded.

As you can very see, Volkswagen takes our customer’s safety extremely seriously. Although we are proud of our vehicle’s crash-worthiness, we’d all prefer to avoid accidents.
