What Is: Volkswagen Digital Cockpit?

As vehicle technology evolves and improves, more and more manufacturers are going in the direction of fully digital centre stacks, and even gauge clusters.

That’s precisely what Volkswagen has done with their latest models that feature something they call the Digital Cockpit. At the moment, the Digital Cockpit can be outfitted on the following VW models: Jetta, Atlas, Tiguan, Golf R, and e-Golf.

So, what does the Digital Cockpit offer? Well, essentially it’s a fully customizable gauge cluster that allows you to display the most pertinent information (to you) while you drive on a 12.3” TFT 1440 x 550 pixel resolution screen.

Information you can display on the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit:

  • Speedometer
  • Tachometer
  • Fuel economy
  • Compass
  • Driving Range
  • Navigation
  • Phone
  • Entertainement information
  • Safety Features
  • And more

While this feature isn’t standard on all VW models, it is available as an option on most and something that is well worth the extra. Imagine a gauge cluster that could be transformed into a 12-inch map displaying your navigation steps, and all right behind your steering wheel ensuring you never have to take your eyes far from the road ahead to see where you’re going next.

The VW Virtual Cockpit is designed to make driving more enjoyable and more efficient, as well as make it safer by providing all the most important information right where the driver needs it: directly in front of him/her.
